Announcing the Capsule Stories 2022 Pushcart Prize Nominations

All four editions of Capsule Stories that were published in 2022 laying on a white background

Each year, Pushcart Press accepts nominations from magazine and small book press editors throughout the world for the Pushcart Prize. Editors can nominate poetry, essays, short stories, memoirs, or standalone novel excerpts, including translations, reprints, and both traditional and experimental writing. Selected pieces are then published in the annual Pushcart Prize anthology.

Capsule Stories 2022 Pushcart Prize Nominations

Capsule Stories nominated the following six stories, essays, and poems for the Pushcart Prize.

Prose

“Suncatcher” by Hantian Zhang

Hantian Zhang is a writer living in San Francisco. He is a data scientist by day.

“The Light and the Lake” by Dana Getka

Dana Getka is a master’s student pursuing a degree in history. Her work circles around notions of memory and the archive during the early twentieth century.

“Unexpecting” by Anna Dobbin

Anna Dobbin is an author and freelance copy editor, proofreader, and conscious language specialist. Her writing has appeared in the middle grade anthologies The Hero Next Door and Totally Middle School. When she isn’t writing, she copyedits middle grade and young adult books, as well as fiction and nonfiction for adults, graphic novels, cookbooks, and more.

Poems

“To Lose” by Veronica Nation

Veronica Nation is a Colorado poet and artist whose work can be seen in Levitate Magazine, 300 Days of Sun, Sink Hollow, and others. “Cradled” by Eve Croskery

“Dear Tree Committee” by Jennifer Clark

Jennifer Clark is the author of a children’s book and three full-length poetry collections. Her newest book, Kissing the World Goodbye (Unsolicited Press, 2022), ventures into the world of memoir, braiding family tales with recipes. She lives in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
